La Clairière

A brief history

In the 19th century, La Clairière was an unspoilt land of vines and hunting, on the doorstep of the ocean. The hunting lodge, built in 1821 of local stone and wood, has stood the test of time. Now completely renovated, it houses our wellness area in a warm, authentic atmosphere.

In the 1950s, this vast 12-hectare forest estate was transformed into a summer camp for the children of the City of Paris. Over 1,200 m² of buildings were erected to house the children and provide them with appropriate facilities and services.

In 1993, a new page was turned with the creation of the 147-site “La Clairière” campsite. Over the next fourteen years, the site underwent a major expansion, with the addition of a swimming pool, waterslide and other facilities, earning the campsite its three-star rating.

In 2006, Guylaine and Léo Caldarola took over the estate and breathed new life into it. They modernized the infrastructure, renovated the existing buildings and expanded the range of services on offer. Today, their daughters, Maud and Marine, join the family adventure, helping to make La Clairière a welcoming and convivial place to live.

Since then, the campsite has gone from strength to strength: creation of a lagoon, a 2.5-hectare adventure park, renovation of the bar and restaurant in a wood-and-stone style, installation of gourmet kiosks (wood-fired pizza, snack bar, bakery) and development of a range of Premium cottages.

Today, our campsite in La Tremblade is proud of its 4-star rating, as well as its “Qualité Tourisme” and “Clef Verte” labels, reflecting our commitment to a high-quality welcome and more responsible tourism.

More than ever, holidaymakers are at the heart of the La Clairière team’s concerns: their satisfaction, well-being and the quality of their stay are an integral part of our DNA!

Protecting nature, to better welcome you and your family

The La Clairière campsite is located on the edge of the La Coubre national forest, classified as a “coastal protection forest” and home to numerous animal species and a wide variety of plants.
Hiking and horse-riding trails (with or without a guide) have been laid out in the forest to facilitate access for visitors while preserving the natural environment.
Sports and nature-based activities are the mainstay of the campsite, and the accrobranche (tree climbing) on the campsite attracts many enthusiasts.

The “Vélodyssée” cycle route is directly accessible from the campsite. Numerous cycle paths and mountain bike trails run through the forest and along the ocean.
The supermarket on the campsite sells basic necessities, including organic and local produce, so you don’t have to use your car for shopping. The same goes for the natural swimming area, which offers the pleasures of the beach without leaving the campsite. Information, in the form of panels and booklets, is provided to tourists to raise their awareness of the local flora and fauna, and of eco-responsible tourism.

La Tremblade, home to La Clairière campsite, has been awarded the “Station Classée de Tourisme” designation, which recognizes communities with an ongoing policy of sustainable development. La Tremblade is fortunate to be home to two major Natura 2000 areas, where the aim is to protect animal species and habitats of interest.
Also in the Charente-Maritime department, several communes have been awarded the “Pavillon bleu” label for their beaches, and fourteen villages are listed in the “Village de pierres et d’eau” network of remarkable sites.

As for GIP Littoral, it is carrying out 34 projects in the department as part of a shared strategy for sustainable development, with the aim of “Littoral 2030” being to make a success of the transition of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine coastline.
