The city of La Rochelle is but an hour from the campsite.
The capital of the Charente Maritime department and city of La Rochelle is a world renowned sea resort. It links Ile de Ré in the north and Rochefort/Royan area/Oleron in the south.
It’s also a major trading port and one of the top fishing ports in France.
The stunning buildings in the port and old town exude history and make La Rochelle one of the Villes d’Art (city of art): fortifications, towers (Tour de la Lanterne and Tour de la Grosse Horloge), town hall, churches etc.
It’s a cultural city with lots of museums and exhibitions all year round. Sailing is key to La Rochelle: don’t miss its major water sports centre, marinas and the famous event for boat enthusiasts, Le Grand Pavois.
